Tom is a big, bald, Belgian-beer-loving…..Belgian. He’s one of my favourite photographers because he’s upfront, talks about his craft in ways that a layman or a professional can understand, and reveals a human side – rather than adding endless platitudes to his images (viz. the “I love this girl!!”….”Maisie rocks that outfit!!!” Instagram-speak that’s far too common). He did a boudoir-style session in Bristol recently, and while the results were more than adequate he quickly said that the genre was “well outside my comfort zone”….revealing a disarming recognition of his limits as a photographer. Also the kids he photographs clearly love him: I don’t think there’s one shot of him with a child model where he isn’t pulling a face or kidding around, much to their visible delight. The avatar for the blog is a portrait by him of Loucka, which I talked about in one of the first posts for the blog – not many months, but a lot of posts ago – it’s here.
He also happens to have a portfolio full of other gorgeous portraits:
….and these really are just tasters. There’s a Facebook image link in the previous post I did on him – and the Facebook entries are often accompanied by sweet comments from the models featured (Belgian girls seem to be uniformly pretty, well-brought-up, and polite) – and his Instagram feed is here – that is, if you’re prepared to spend time envying a man who seems to travel round Europe enjoying the sights while he searches out the next bottle of (expensive) Belgian beer….
