[Looking back at this after I posted it, I was struck by the sunlight behind the clouds (as well as the seagulls) – a rather unusual seascape element – and it reminded me of a couple of “calendar art” illustrations by Mabel Rollins Harris (since so little is known of her life, despite the fact that she flourished from the ’20s to the ’40s, I’ll follow up with a reblog of some of her work):

The first is entitled “Water Nymph”, and the second “Child of the Sea”. She’s deemed to be “undoubtedly the finest female illustrator of the Art Deco era” –  tho’ while attractive, her work is not really of the highest artistic order…..she also did sentimental illustrations of angelic children and even Madonnas – so her “nymphs” are definitely not meant to be saucy, even tho’ they’re often bundled together with Jules Erbit etc.]

Olga Rudneva is much better known by her DeviantArt moniker, Anarud, tho’ she has galleries on Photosight and 500px as well – only using her given name on the latter. She lives on the Australian Gold Coast, but her name and fluency on Photosight.ru clearly indicate her Russian origins. She has two daughters (see the featured image above the title), but the younger Alisa (Alice) is the one she uses most as a model – in often reposted and repinned portraits:

I could easily fill a post with portraits like these, but decided in fact to concentrate on her beach photographs: some clearly with wallpaper sales in mind, and some more intimate. She lives on a beautiful coast, so her choice seems logical – plus those big sweeps of landscape are perfect for wallpaper:

…..she has a Russian taste for the gently sentimental with regard to children’s portraits, and is never afraid to put the images through the actions washing machine to see what comes out….these are a bit more intimate:

……she isn’t the most subtle ‘shopper, but I don’t get the impression that’s a problem: she seems to love her life under the Southern Cross, adores the beach – and accepts the images as they come out – going as far as to produce rather unconvincing-looking pixies:

Alisa sometimes looks a little grumpy, but she is asked to pose a lot, and well, she’s reaching a grumpy age…

Here’s Olga enjoying the good life (and the cockatoos):
