Why start a post devoted to eleven-year-old Australian cheerleader/model Skyla Jay Carpenter with a shot of fellow-Aussie Meika Woollard? Because Skyla is unfeasably pretty, perfect international model material, and is constantly being snapped in silly cheerleader costumes with equally silly amounts of mascara and a bouffant hair-do plus over-sized bow – and the poor girl has added the caption: “Would love love love this.”
Well, she has in fact already been the subject of a couple of beautiful Lilly K Photography (Isa Battaglin) portraits:
…….compare them with some of her typical uniform outings:
…….and I think my case is made. End of post…..
Ok, since she has a wealth of portraits that aren’t as irritating (if not all of Isa’s quality), I’ll continue. Not convinced? These are lovely:
Look at the last one: that’s a girl who should be modelling the best brands for the best sites and magazines. Her eyes are probably the most beautiful I’ve ever seen on a girl model. Yup, I put it in bold, since for me it’s rather rare – I don’t lightly enter into the business of comparing the relative physical merits of the models whose portraits I post. Her heart-shaped mouth is pretty special too, but I’ll leave it at one superlative….
Here are some more attempts to convince you (if needed):
…..the “bae” in the last shot is her friend and fellow cheerleader/model Ivy Mae (see Instagram image link near the bottom of the post).
Skyla (or probably her mum) doesn’t often credit photographers on Instagram – the one who seems to have done most of her “quality” (often b&w) portraits is Michael Murchie (see the Instagram image link tagging him): he’s an excellent photographer – but although Meika has managed to achieve a big international reputation while staying in Australia, she’s still limited to a relatively small number of top brands like Tutu du Monde and Mischka Aoki, and a small number of top photographers like Alexandrena Parker. Skyla seems to to need to do a KPim and physically move to the States (or possibly Barcelona) to make the most of her rather extraordinary photogenic qualities: she’s clearly desperate to be scouted, or win a Babiekins-type competition.
Obviously not everyone is in KPim’s situation, nor would want to interrupt school, friendships, hobbies (like the cheerleading in Skyla’s case) etc., for what could turn out to be a chimera – but nothing ventured…
Here’s another batch:
…..neither Isa on Facebook, or Skyla on Instagram, say where the shots I mentioned at the beginning were taken – but since Isa travels to Australia occasionally for headshot and model test portfolio sessions, it’s a fair bet that’s how they came about. At the moment Skyla seems to do more brand representing/ambassador-ing than actual modelling – but how I’d love to see those haunting, enormous blue eyes in a Lee Clower or Vika Pobeda set: with Skyla happily ensconsed in New York….. (I’d accept Alex Kruk on the West coast as well – she’d probably feel more at home in California, anyway….)
