Willow and Emma O’Brien: How Does Life Live? (By Kelly O’Brien for The New York Times)

Two sisters, Willow and Emma O’Brien (three and eleven at the time), ask the big questions – and some of the small ones, too – as the two girls play round a gravel pit. It could have been two brothers (except for a couple of the questions that are gender-specific) – but somehow the questions seem more appropriate coming from a little thing who looks as sassy/cute in rain boots as she would in a tutu. If we’re going to get out of the hole we’re in, it’s going to be the girls that do it….
